Hey, we're a purebred cat rescue. How did this little domestic kitty end
up with us???
Poor Stevie, but lucky Stevie. Hers is quite a story. One of our
volunteers was driving along a Country road and was peeved to find that
traffic was slowed down and weaving around a bit. Then he noticed that
there was a tiny kitten stumbling in the road. Not one of those giant
SUV's stopped to help her, they just swerved around her. He couldn't
bear the thought of her imminent death by tire tread, so he stopped his
car in the middle of the street and snatched up the kitten. She was
stumbling around because she was completely blinded by rocks and debris
in her eyes. We assume she had a bit of a cold, got goopy eyes and then
fell asleep in the dirt. The rocks then encrusted onto her eyes, leaving
her blind (scroll down to see graphic photos of Stevie as found). We assumed she would be blind but as you can see, within
hours of being rescued she was looking "better". (It's a relative term,
OK?).
Now Stevie is almost a year old and really needs to find a home of her
own.Her elderly foster mom had hoped to keep her, but Stevie is one of
those active cats that tends to walk in front of her human or dart in
and about the ankles. For most people that's charming, but we're afraid
she's going to trip her and cause a an injury. (OK.. so mom is going to
kill me for calling her elderly, don't you think? 74 is still pretty
young. Still, she's got osteoporosis so a fall is a major concern).
Stevie has full vision in her eyes and has developed into a healthy and
robust kitty. Her coat is spectacular and her ear tufts are so lovely we
were hoping she was going to turn out to be a Maine Coon. Not to be. If
there's Maine Coon in there, it's quite diluted by now. She still has a
penchant for looking to the out of door, so you need to be watchful
about keeping her inside. She gets along with dogs and other cats. She
might also be OK with children, although she's not been around too many
of those. Stevie is an active and on the go type of kitty. She likes
toys, but is not much for being picked up and dragged alone. She's
slightly independent while being quite bonded to her humans. She'll want
to follow you around the house, but not be carried around the house.
Stevie can be adopted for $75.
