ROLLS ROYCE THEN...
[story below]

Yes, folks. There is a cat under all that. Not a very big cat, either. That's solid matting. Years and years of neglect. Rolls Royce came to us when a CFA breeder died. She had health problems for several years prior to her death, and it shows in the condition of the cats we got. This boy lived in a cage in a garage his whole life. We figure he was named Rolls Royce because all of the kittens he sired must have made someone a small fortune. Too bad he didn't inherit that when his breeder died. According to the neighbors, he lived in utter filth after her death. He actually lived in his OWN filth since the litter boxes weren't being cleaned.
Rolls Royce was a work in progress. It took us a couple of hours to shave those horrid mats off and we have to say it's a tribute to the great temperament of this cat. He just sat there and hardly even got impatient.
The one really weird picture is of his toenails (not shown). They had not been trimmed in so long, and when a cat lives in a cage, their claws can't get sharpened and shortened like they normally would. His toenails had curved and thickened and were tucked back in between his toes and digging right into the area between. His feet clicked when he walked like he was wearing high heels. They also smelled really bad because they were becoming infected. Rolls also had some nasty skin problems as a result of the years of matting. Because the skin couldn't "breathe" through the mats, it became damp. He had bacterial and fungal infections on his skin. Those were very treatable and he felt much better after just two medicated baths. He didn't smell anymore either. We were very happy that he didn't smell.
Rolls went from being neglected to being Da King. He stayed in a cage during his time of recuperating, but he thought he was in a palace by comparison to his previous life. He talked to us all the time and told us just when and how much food he should be getting. Then he took some naps until it was time to eat again. Then he said we should pet him, and then give him more food. Once his skin problems cleared up he went to his forever home.
Rolls is a really, really nice cat. His odds of getting a home at this age were very slim, but we held out some faith in the human race that there was a kind soul somewhere who would give this boy a home, and she found us! He's not the oldest cat we've ever placed. We did place a 15 year old Himalayan a couple years back and that cat is still alive and kicking. So we know there is hope. Take a look at his pictures and sing along as he turns from a moldy, smelly lump that can't move into a sexy model ... on the cat walk.
P.S. We want to thank We Care
in St. Helena who donated a Limo ride to get Rolls Royce all the way to his new
home. |
