March 10 update: After a long period of time, Baby's recovery is almost complete. Gone are the parasites, gone is the horrible diarrhea, gone are the patches of baldness. Through lots of medication, patience and TLC, Baby has become quite an impressive cat.
At 10 months old, Baby has surpassed the size of a typical adult cat. Her legs have gotten long, as well as her body length. Baby has gone from being an emaciated, scrappy kitty on death's door, to a healthy, well muscled, thriving kitty. She just keeps getting bigger and bigger now that she's healthy!
Baby gets along with other cats very well. She will need to be in a home with other extremely high energy cats. Her new home will need to be with with some one who has had EG cats, or has worked with them. If you don't know what EG means, then Baby will not be the right cat for you. She is an F1, and experience is a must for adopting Baby. While Baby is affectionate, she can be moody. If Baby is not stimulated each day with physical and mental exercise, she will be destructive. Baby is a lover kitty that enjoys getting petted and loved on. She is super fast twirling between your legs as you walk, trying to get your attention. One of Baby's favorite things to do is stalk the vacuum cleaner and attack the feather duster. She loves cleaning days!
Baby will be ready for adoption in early April.

November 1 update: A quick update from my foster mom!
"Baby is doing GREAT! She has doubled her weight in less than a month and now weighs just about 7 lbs. Baby appears to have some sight left!
It seems as though her vision improved with a better diet, although we don't know how that is possible. She still appears to have some loss of vision in her direct line of sight as she will step right off of a high shelf without appearing to see that she's up high. She motors around just fine, though. Unfortunately we're having some challenges with the diarrhea, but given time that will also improve. All in all she is a great kitten. Baby is a spoiled little thing, very willful, but rewarding."

We need immediate sponsorship for Baby. She is in terrible condition and
we were told she was nearly euthanized at the shelter. She weighs only 3
lbs and really should weigh about 8 lbs at this point. She is blind, she
has raging diarrhea, and she has a contagious but treatable skin
condition. She is going immediately to the vet and may be hospitalized
for several days. Beyond that she will take months of intensive care and
round the clock monitoring to be sure her internal organs heal as she
gains weight.
At some point she will need to be seen by Dr. Lana Linton
(Animal Eye Care, Rocklin, CA) to see what the extent of her blindness
is. We can see no signs of scarring on the eyes and she doesn't seem to
have eye infections. We have a theory that she was fed home made food or
people food that didn't have enough Taurine in it. If we are right this
is what we know about her future: "In the cat, a chronic deficiency of
taurine induces a progressive degeneration of the retina, leading to a
total blindness within 2 years. The correction of the diet allows to
stop the evolution, but the lesions are not reversible." Hopefully we
have caught this soon enough and she will be able to at least retain
some vision over her lifetime.
Baby is what is known as an F1 Chausie. That means she's just one
generation away from being a pure Jungle Cat. That's our simple version
of what her breeding is. We're sure a couple of reputable breeders can
help us understand this unique breed a tad better. None of that really
matters to us, though. This kitten has captured the hearts of every
rescuer to see her. As soon as we walked into the room we all gasped at
what a darling kitten she is. Although emaciated her body frame is the
size of an adult cat.
Her sweet personality emanates from her and you
want to hold her and snuggle her. She constantly paces back and forth in
her cage as soon as she hears someone come near. You can hear her
purring from a few feet away. She is now eating like a little piggy and
drinking like a horse. Her favorite pastime is opening latches on the
cage door. We know there is hope for her if we can get the right
diagnostics done and reverse the damages done by parasites and starvation.
